Not quite photos, not quite paintings, but too pretty to keep to myself.
I’ve been sitting on these images for a week or so now, not totally sure what I was going to do with them. But since I don’t have any new proper photos (save for a couple candids that I added to the collection) for July, I figured why not go ahead and make a gallery for them on my site?
A combination of digital manipulation, and handwork, these are shockingly complicated and pretty interpretations of photos (of me!) that were created (with what I imagine was great effort!) by a friend of mine who refuses to let me link to his other work.
Which – I understand. But still. He’s very talented and these are stunning and thoughtful and I’m beyond flattered that anyone would take the time to make proper artworks out of my silly pics.
My favorite parts are the details that show off the illustrative qualities superseding the photo qualities. These are draft versions of the original photos printed onto thick paper, then built up with color/ink/watercolors, then scanned back into photoshop for further manipulations and tricks. That’s a lot of steps!
The highlights in the hair look like oil painting technique (even though I suspect they’re not). And the doodling and linework (as well as the highlights and shadows) built up around certain areas creates a visual interest and drama that just isn’t present in the original photos.
I decided that, as well as adding them to a gallery on my site, I should also give them a proper showing here. So I made some gallery mockups to present them as the proper works of art they really are. As well as a tribute to my personal narcissism. If you want to see the full size images, click over to tylerthebadwolf.com and hit up the gallery.
I really can’t say “thank you” enough about these. I’m so touched and impressed and almost feel a little silly putting them up here. But thank you for letting me use these and share them with others!
This is a nice reminder that after all this time, I still really #lovewhatIdo
